Anthony Yi has been a music educator on the Central Coast for more than a decade. Under the baton and tutelage of the late Dr. Eric Hammer, Yi earned his Bachelor of Music degree in music education from the University of the Pacific, Conservatory of Music. He then became director of bands at Arroyo Grande High School. After a fantastic four years of developing a high quality music program there, he began working at local elementary schools to bring music back into children's lives. He currently teaches music in the Santa Maria area.
As a musician, Yi studied classical xaxophone with Dr. Donald DaGrade and David Henderson. Under their guidance, he has had the opportunity to perform in various capacities. He performed at NASA, the North American Saxophone Alliance Western Regional Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2009. He has also had the honor of performing for former President Bill Clinton during the 2008 Campaign for Hilary Clinton.
Locally, Yi has performed with many of the ensembles in San Luis Obispo county. He has had the opportunity to play with the San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra, the San Luis Obispo Symphony, Symphony of the Vines, and Orchestra Novo. Yi was also one of the founding members of the Neptune Reeds, a woodwind chamber group made up of single and double reed instruments. He also plays with the San Luis Obispo-based brass band, Brash Mash.
