The Music Department is delighted to announce a wonderful anonymous gift that the Mustang Band received at the end of fall quarter. The gift was the result of a chance conversation the donors had with Len Kawamoto, Mustang Band assistant director, and they quickly became fans. Their substantial gift of more than $400,000 will be used in a variety of ways to support Mustang Band. Over time, it may endow annual scholarships for key student leadership, fund instruments and equipment, and provide non-athletics-related travel that would otherwise be funded by the students.

“Especially in the current climate, we have seen how Cal Poly Band activity has sustained our students. This has highlighted just how big a role making music is in our students’ lives. Furthermore, given the visibility of our musical organizations in their service to the university’s missions, it’s clear from this gift that the community recognizes that value and, when it can, is eager to provide specific support,” said Cal Poly Director of Bands Christopher J. Woodruff.
