Johnson Era Culminates with Award and
Performance in the Walt Disney Concert Hall

Professor William Johnson is now officially professor emeritus, and he left Cal Poly on a very high note!

Johnson's final on-campus performance after 43 years of service was on June 6, conducting the Cal Poly Wind Ensemble and Wind Orchestra in Harman Hall of the Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center. He was taken by surprise when National Executive Director of Kappa Kappa Psi, Lt. Col. Alan L. Bonner, USAF (ret.), appeared from the wings to award him with the Medal for Distinguished Service to Music.

On June 22, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, he conducted the Wind Ensemble in an appearance as the Showcase Ensemble for the 2010 Los Angeles International Music Festival. Soloists included W. Terrence Spiller, piano, and Cal Poly alum John Astaire, percussion. Cal Poly alum Anna Binneweg was a guest conductor, and the program included a new work for wind ensemble by faculty member Meredith Brammeier.
