Mustang Band Marches in San Francisco Again
The Cal Poly Mustang Band reprised its appearance in the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco on March 7 near Chinatown in the heart of the city. Last year, the Pride of the Pacific was awarded first place in the category of college marching bands and drum corps. The parade was enjoyed by more than one million attendees lining the parade route.
Tenor saxophone player Chloe Cruz (political science), a San Francisco native, said of marching in the parade, “It definitely takes us out of our college bubble and our usual athletic support position and lets us show off who we are as a band.”
With nearly 50 performances on the band’s calendar, this is the first road trip the full Mustang Band has taken this academic year. Drum major Patrick Fedigan (software engineering) said the trip was “an opportunity to represent the university to a worldwide audience and to develop bonds within the band. Spending time performing and being together with 220 friends on a trip created stronger bonds for all of us!”
