After 34 years as director of choral and vocal studies, Thomas Davies, “Dr. Tom,” will conduct his final concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 11, in Harman Hall of the Performing Arts Center.
The concert will include important milestones in Davies’ tenure. Participants in the program will include current students, alumni and faculty.
Included on the program will be the 2017 PolyPhonics Tour Choir, the Cal Poly Early Music Ensemble and the Cal Poly Combined Choirs. The PolyPhonics Tour Choir departs on June 21 for concerts in England and Wales. The Combined Choirs include members of PolyPhonics, the University Singers, and the Early Music Ensemble. A variety of music including works for women’s and men’s choruses will be performed. Paul Woodring and Susan Azaret Davies will accompany the groups.
Alumni will be featured in a 100-voice choir, and Men-So Forte, Cal Poly’s internationally award-winning barbershop quartet from 2003-05 will perform. Alumni interested in particpating in the concert should email alumnus Tim McLellan, or Davies.
The final work on the concert will be Beethoven’s wonderful “Choral Fantasy” for piano, soloists and choir. Dr. Tom’s wife and musical partner, Susan Azaret Davies, will be featured. The Davies offer this work as a giant “Thank You” to their wonderful extended family of Cal Poly students and colleagues.
