Michael Leopold Returns to Cal Poly for Recital

The fall 2011 issue of Soundboard featured an article on 1995 Music Department graduate Michael Leopold, and we are delighted that he will be returning to Cal Poly to present a recital on the theorbo — a large bass lute — one of the many instruments he plays. The recital is titled “Tablature de theorbe: Italian and French Music for the Theorbo.” The free recital will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Davidson Music Center, Room 218. During his visit he will also give a presentation to Cal Poly students.

Leopold currently lives in Milan, Italy, and has performed both as a soloist and as an accompanist throughout Australia, Chile, Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the U. S.

He was able to schedule a trip to Cal Poly since afterward he will be performing with the San Francisco Opera’s production of “Così fan tutte,” then with Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, N.Y., for “Camelot.”
