Polyrhythmics, Cal Poly’s percussion ensemble, will give its annual concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, in the Performing Arts Center Pavilion.
This year’s concert will include new works that combine African polyrhythmic drumming with American minimalism to create a kaleidoscope of rhythm and color. Also featured will be Daniel Levitan's charming “Marimba Quartet.” The concert will conclude with Sven-David Sandström's massive and virtuosic powerhouse, the rarely performed, and appropriately titled, “Drums.”
The ensemble is directed by music faculty member John Astaire.
The recital is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts and Music Department. For more information, call the Music Department at 805-756-2406 or visit the department’s calendar website.
